Joyce Revelle

Joyce S. Revelle flew to new horizons on November 8, 2018, just a few days short of her 91st birthday. She joined The Ninety-Nines and the Central New York Chapter in 1977. Following the death of her husband, Jack, in 2001, she purchased a home at Spruce Creek Fly-In, Port Orange, Florida which became her primary residence a few years later. She switched her chapter affiliation to Florida Spaceport Chapter at that time, but she stayed in touch with Central New York Chapter and we continued to think of her as “our” member! Several members visited her in Florida.

Joyce and Jack owned several airplanes during their flying careers – including a Grumman American Tiger and later, two Bonanzas. They put them to good use, flying around the US for many business and pleasure trips, also venturing to Canada, Alaska, the Caribbean, and Mexico. Joyce enjoyed flying herself to a number of Ninety-Nines Conferences.

They had many other interests which took them all over the world. Jack had a passion for big game hunting, particularly in Africa. They skied in the US and Europe and did scuba diving in many faraway places such as Jordan, Australia, and the Indian Ocean. It seemed they were always just back from somewhere, and those of us in the Central New York Chapter hung on every word as Joyce shared her experiences.

Joyce was a tiny person who appeared fragile, but she was really “tough as nails,” keeping up with Jack on his many exploits and fighting back, as she aged, from a series of falls and medical issues that would have downed most people half her age. She was a truly kind and compassionate person who was a role model for all of us. It was truly a privilege to have known her.
