The Southeast Section of The Ninety-Nines is proud to celebrate SEVEN of its members who were inducted into the International Forest of Friendship during its 50th anniversary celebration on September 12, 2026, in Atchison, Kansas. Under this year’s theme, “World Friendship Through Flight,” the ceremony honored individuals whose achievements, service, leadership, and dedication have contributed to the legacy of aviation and aerospace.
Established in 1976 as a bicentennial gift to the United States, the International Forest of Friendship is a living memorial to the history of aviation and aerospace. Located in Amelia Earhart’s birthplace of Atchison, the Forest was founded through a partnership between the City of Atchison, The Ninety-Nines, and the Kansas Forest Service. Its trees represent all 50 states and more than 35 countries, while engraved stones along its winding pathways commemorate individuals who have made meaningful contributions to aviation. The Forest embodies a vision of international goodwill and connection through flight.
Please join the Southeast Section in congratulating our seven honorees:
- Commander (Ret.) Liz Booker — Florida Goldcoast Chapter, Life Member, Literary Aviatrix
- JoAnne Dawson — NOLA Chapter, Advanced Ground Instructor
- Captain Melissa Day — NOLA Chapter, Professional Pilot Leadership Initiative (PPLI) Graduate

- Dr. Lois Horne — Memphis Chapter, Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarship Foundation Recipient

As members of The Ninety-Nines, these honorees are part of a proud legacy of women who have opened doors and created opportunities for others. Their induction is a celebration not only of individual accomplishments but also of the collective impact of women in aviation.
The Southeast Section extends its heartfelt congratulations to all 2026 inductees on their well-deserved honor. We are proud to celebrate everyone’s achievements and the lasting contributions they each have made to the history and future of aviation.
